Amy Hodgepodge's nationality is mixed with Caucasian, African American and Asian.
Kim and her husband stated they were inspired to write this book by their nieces, many of whom are mixed-race children. This book teaches and explains diversity, helps those transitioning as a homeschool student to a more common school environment, and introduces a well rounded character and her new advetures as a full fledge student.
